BORED???

I have been and am still spending most of my time sewing fabric masks and answering emails, calls re mask-making.  Honestly, I almost can't find time to work on a regular blog post.  While it is important to remain mindful as a person and it is good to share thoughts and ideas, I think I can do more to help people at risk by making them something they can really use.

Regardless of your age, please don't take this epidemic lightly and think that only the elderly is at risk.  Many young and healthy have contracted the disease, and some even died.  As always, before you can take care of others, you need to make sure you are well first.  Everything starts from you.

I have read a lot of people complaining that they are bored.  BORED???  Really?  I have been super busy -- even busier than usual because there are so many things to do!  How can anybody be bored?

Go on YouTube to find a new recipe to give it a try.  Food.com.  Recipe. com.  There must be something that suits your fancy.  Make for yourself some nutritious new dish.  Consume more veggies and fruit because the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants can help boost your immunity.

Have you ever tried baking your own bread?  It is not difficult.  Here is a link to the Lahey method for making a no-knead bread.  Very simple ingredients, very little work for an Italian style loaf -- nice crust and a chewy center with large bubbles.  Almost fool-proof way of making very tasty bread.

Please do not over-consume alcohol just because you are cooped in.  If you drink, use moderation.  As our Aikido friend, medical researcher Dr Yoram Vodovotz points out, it wears on your liver and, in turn, hurts your immunity.  It is going to be a long game.  You need to keep yourself in top shape to survive well.

If you are willing and capable, help seniors get groceries.  Call family and friends who live alone to make sure they are okay.  Video chat them.  Help lift their spirit.  It is much harder for those who live alone.  Let them know that someone cares despite the lockdown.  It can be really hard for people if they feel isolated.

What else can you do with your extra home time?  Do you have a garden?  If you don't, consider starting one!  It is a good time for doing that.  Plant a "Victory Garden", grow your own veggies.  Not only will you get eat delicious vegetables, it will help you reduce the number of runs to the store.  Whether or not the lockdown is over by then, having a home garden helps reduce our carbon footprint.  We are now about 6 weeks before planting time.  It is a great time to start many seeds indoors for transplanting.  Some can wait a couple more weeks.  So, you are not late at all.  Many grocery stores stock veggie seeds.  Pick up some and give it a try.  Even a novice can easily grow lettuce and salad greens.  Consider starting some sprouts in a jar. They are good for salad as well as sandwiches.

I can go on and on to offer you ideas of what to do.  There are endless ideas of how you can make positive use of your time and have fun.   I do not remember ever feeling bored.  My problem is more about not having enough time to do everything I want to do.  There are many more interesting things than Netflix.

As my elementary school teacher once said, the word "bored" is for someone who lack curiosity and creativity.  If you open your eyes and look around, there are always things to learn and try.  Don't be the type that flops on the couch and waits to be entertained passively.  It is bad for your body and it does not cultivate your mind.  You only live once.  Seize the moment.  Do something positive for you and for others.  Live an interesting and rewarding life.

Please stay healthy and happy.  Hope to see you soon again.
